Therapist

Hannah Carpenter (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate who is passionate about helping others heal, reach their goals, and live fulfilling lives as their authentic and empowered self. In 2020, she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in sociology from the University of Louisville. She then continued at UofL and completed her master’s degree (M. Ed.) in Counseling & Personnel Services with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2022. During this time, Hannah interned at a University Counseling Center, working with traditional and non-traditional students who had a wide array of backgrounds and reasons for seeking therapy. Her passion for mental health stems from years of struggling to manage her own anxiety and depression while in an environment that was not affirming of her identity as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. She now aims to assist those with similar or different circumstances invest in their own personal growth and heal from any trauma they may have experienced.

Hannah embraces an integrative and individualized approach to therapy, utilizing techniques from several different modalities depending on each client’s needs and values. These typically include strategies rooted in mindfulness, ACT, CBT, DBT, and/or somatic practices. However, she believes that it is important to recognize that the strongest predictor of positive outcomes in therapy is not the method or type of coping skills that are used, but the strength of the relationship between client and therapist, also known as the therapeutic alliance. Hannah strives to incorporate principles of liberation psychology into her work by maintaining an outlook centered around anti-oppression, taking contextual factors into consideration (environment, identities, relationships, societal/systemic influences, etc.) and supporting community efforts for social justice whenever possible. In her free time, she enjoys activities such as crochet, painting, roller skating, reading, and video games.
